Running out of Options

Documentary based on the collaborative reporting project with 9NEWS and the Colorado Sun. Reporters uncovered a system in chaos that allows children in mental health or behavioral crisis to run away from residential treatment centers with sometimes deadly results. Running Out of Options series of written and video stories ran on both the Colorado Sun and 9NEWS websites.

Still Drinking Still Driving

Documentary based on the series of reports exposing a loophole in Colorado's Felony DUI law. The team that produced Still Drinking Still Driving used computer assisted reporting to uncover how many repeat DUI offenders are escaping jail or prison time. This investigation has prompted numerous follow up stories and is ongoing today, with a recent investigation into a man still driving after numerous brushes with the law.

Illicit Massage

Documentary based on reporting about illicit massage parlors being shut down in one municipality for suspected human trafficking only to reopen in other parts of the metro area with less stringent laws. Our reporting led to indictments of several illicit massage parlor owners for human trafficking and a change in the a Denver ordinance to protect women forced to work and live in these businesses.

Medical Pricing Investigations

From the high price of prescription drugs to up-charging emergency services, or punishing those struggling to pay medical bills, the high price of the healthcare system became a major area of investigation for 9NEWS. We investigated medical billing practices in "Show Us Your Bills;" prescription drug pricing in "SideEffects;" free-standing ERs in "BuyER Beware;" and the practice of using the legal system to go after patients in "Lien on Me."

Mystery on Mount Meeker

Documentary based on an investigation "What Happened to Bobby Bizzup" that revealed a cover up in the investigation into a missing boy from a Catholic boys camp in the late 50's. The release of this documentary lead to the discovery of the boy's skull in the basement of a prominent catholic doctor, the exhumation of the boy's body, and relaunched investigation into his death.

BLAME

Ongoing series of multi-platform investigations uncovering new information in cold case mysteries. The reporting in the three seasons of BLAME has lead to new investigations, changed death certificates, and revealed information. BLAME combines podcasting and expanded digital stories with TV and documentary-style story telling.

Season 1 BLAME: Was Jill Wells' Death an Accident or Murder uncovered new information about a woman whose death was blamed on her 5-year-old son. The investigation culminated in a documentary.

Season 2 BLAME: Lost at Home investigated the "disappearance" of a man who was found dead in his own home in spite of him being dead in his own home. The investigation resulted in a documentary.

Season 3: BLAME: The Fear All These Years examined the mistakes and problems that kept a decades old cold-case from being solved.
